Abstract This paper offers an ethnomethodological membership categorization analysis (MCA) of episode argumentative talk in a bank, between recent Indian migrant and her white British area manager. MCA examines how members use categorizations the course their everyday practical activities including workplace meetings. Our shows “interactional trouble” employee manager leads to racially Othering by invoking attributes resonant with what researchers call coloniality. Although theories racism microaggression focus on interactions, attention is not usually given moment‐by‐moment, turn‐by‐turn interactions racial categorizations.
